Struggling to set up your blog site? Bamboozled by techno-babble? Cringing at costs?
No problem – Dr. Steve can cure your woes!
I work for the discerning kind of people who’d like to run their blog on their own web-domain — without spending a fortune!
My main service covers most WordPress startups – all tailored to your own specific requirements. But if you need more (or less) than that, just drop me a line and we’ll discuss the possibilities!
WordPress Startup Service
- WordPress Installation & Configuration – all the technical hassles dealt with to give you a solid start. Includes a startup suite of reliable free themes ‘n’ plugins (all fully tried-n-tested);
- Extensions – installation of any extra themes ‘n’ plugins you fancy, or that I reckon you’d find useful (all tested prior to installation);
- Customisations – for example, a unique design for your blog, hand-crafted to your own personal specifications and tested in all major web-browsers with a focus on current Web Standards (see “Technical Notes” below);
- 1-to-1 Support – includes any help & advice you might need to get up ‘n’ running confidently and enjoyably. Can be by any combination of phone, e-mail, instant messaging, or whatever else we agree on.
Outline of Terms
- 1 Year Contract – divided into 6 months for labour on my part, plus 6 months guarantee on that labour;
- 6 Months Labour – this allows 6 months for final completion, but your basic setup will (normally) be fully-functional within the first few days. So you can get blogging pretty-much from the start (for what “normally” means, see “Technical Notes” below). Chances are I’ll get everything you ask for done well before 6 months are up, but you still get the full period of my care, support & attention to detail;
- 6 Months Guarantee – on whatever labour I undertook in the first 6 months. For example, if a problem turns out to be my fault, I’ll fix it at no extra cost. If it turns out to be someone else’s fault, I’ll still do my best to help you with it (see next item);
- Third-Party Products & Services – obviously, I can’t legally guarantee other people’s work that I might recommend or help you with. However, you will normally have individual arrangements with such Third Parties (eg. most WordPress software is licensed under the GPL);
- Commencement of Contract – all contracts start on the day that your payment has been fully processed at my end (UK time). Please also refer to “Payments” below.
Current Prices
- Single WordPress Service – a genuine snip at only £300…!!! If you’re not in the UK, try Reuters’ Currency Convertor to calculate your own good news from that number. How can I do it so cheap? Simple – as a freelancer, my overheads are practically zilch (and I have a pretty modest lifestyle anyhow!);
- Multiple Discounts – order more than one WordPress Startup package and I’ll only charge £200 on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th… Xth blogs. How can I afford to do that? Well, I’m confident my 1-to-1 Support’s so good that you just won’t need as much after our first collaboration;
- Other Services – if you need either more or less than my WordPress Startup package, then just drop me a line and we’ll haggle!
- VAT – all prices quoted are 100% VAT-FREE, as in: I don’t have to pay it, so neither do you…! Now there’s something you don’t hear very often these days!
Payments
- Traditional Methods – bank transfers, direct debits, cheques, cash, etc. must all be sent in UK Pounds Sterling. Most of the time, this isn’t a problem for international clients but check with your bank (or other) if you’re not sure;
- Online Methods – at the moment, this means PayPal. Please note that there is normally a short standard period prior to PayPal transactions becoming absolutely final. Trust me, I find that as annoying as you do. Please also note “Duration of Contract” above;
- Prehistoric Method – on rare occasions, I might accept barter (in whole or part), assuming you can offer something I genuinely need. Bear in mind, though, that I’m pretty self-sufficient in most things;
- Transaction Fees – I pay mine, and you pay yours (but please also see “Refunds” below).
Refunds
- Conditions – any requests for refunds must be: (a) legal, (b) reasonable, (c) explained. The following offers only apply under all of those conditions and within the terms of your Statutory Rights as a consumer under “Applicable Law” (see below);
- Before Work Starts – net payments normally refunded in full, minus any transaction-processing costs at my end;
- After Work’s Started – net payments normally refunded in part, calculated according to labour and other costs already expended on my side, minus any transaction-processing costs at my end;
- On Disputes over Quality – as a general rule, please refer to “6 Months Guarantee” above. It means that I undertake to make good any quality issues during the term of the contract. Please also refer to “Applicable Law” below.

So, that’s pretty-much it. If there’s anything you’re unsure of, please just ask. I look forward to hearing from you – and especially to working with you!
Technical Notes
- Prerequisites – of course, before we can actually start, you’ll need to already have a domain name and a web-hosting account capable of supporting WordPress. I can’t provide you with those things, but I can give you advice on good places to get them and even (if I’m feeling generous) some help with sorting them out. See the next item for some basic guidelines;
- System Requirements for WordPress – The official documentation is here. The basic summary is that pretty-much any standard modern Linux server with current versions of Apache, PHP & MySQL will be capable of supporting WordPress. So if your server is like that, I can (normally) get you up and running pretty fast;
- Note on “Customisations” – in the case of theme customisations, my Startup package offers what’s technically called a “Child Theme” of the official WordPress 3 default – Twenty Ten. The result, though, can look pretty-much as different to Twenty Ten as you like (for example, my own current theme is built this way). But the advantage of using Twenty Ten as the basis for your customisation is that it offers the best conformance to current Web Standards, the best compatibility with current WordPress functionality, and the best upgradability within the WordPress 3 life-cycle (and possibly beyond).
